Lunden 214 x 302 cm
Vintage hand-knotted pile rug designed by Märta Måås-Fjetterström in 1932. Handwoven at Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB, Båstad, Sweden. Marked AB MMF.
The rug comes with a certificate of authenticity and is currently on display in our Stockholm showroom.
Lunden, with its towering oaks, oversized acorns, and whimsical flowers, reveals a more playful side of Märta Måås-Fjetterström’s artistic sensibility. Her friend and fellow artist, Tyra Lundgren, noted that Måås-Fjetterström was inspired by her favorite painter, Vincent van Gogh—a connection reflected in the dynamic sense of movement within the design. Lunden is also one of the few works to which Måås-Fjetterström gave an English name. Rather than translating it directly as The Grove, she chose the title The Oaks.
MATERIALS AND CARE
The rug is hand-knotted in wool on a linen warp. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and should not be washed too frequently, as this can strip the natural oils that protect the fibers.
To ensure even wear, rotate the rug periodically. Regular vacuuming is beneficial, but avoid vacuuming the braided edges and refrain from using a vacuum with rotating brushes.
