Röda Ess draws inspiration from the ancient weaving traditions of the Middle East, where motifs were rich with symbolic meaning. The distinctive S-shaped form seen in the design is rooted in a tradition where it often represented dragons—mythical guardians believed to offer protection and ward off evil. These shapes, sometimes referred to as “dragon curls” or “running S” motifs, appear frequently in tribal rugs and textiles from regions such as Persia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus. By incorporating this ancient symbol into a Scandinavian context, Röda Ess bridges cultural histories through design, connecting centuries-old storytelling through the medium of weaving.
MATERIALS AND CARE
The rug is handwoven in wool on a wool warp. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and should not be washed too frequently, as this can strip the natural oils that protect the fibers.
To ensure even wear, rotate the rug periodically. Regular vacuuming is beneficial, but avoid vacuuming the braided edges and refrain from using a vacuum with rotating brushes.
