Tornet 158 x 244 cm
Vintage knotted rya rug designed by Märta Måås-Fjettersström in 1932. Handwoven at Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB, Båstad. Marked AB MMF.
The rug comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström visited New York during the rapid construction of the Empire State Building. This stark contrast to the rural studio setting in Båstad inspired her to create Tornet (The Tower), featuring the silhouette of the Empire State Building stretching along the center of the rug. Look closely, and you’ll see radio waves transmitting through the clouds—though the harsh urbanism is softened by delicate flowers and an elegant palette of deep reds.
This rug is currently on display in our Stockholm showroom.
MATERIALS AND CARE
The rug is hand-knotted in wool on a linen warp. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and should not be washed too frequently, as this can strip the natural oils that protect the fibers.
To ensure even wear, rotate the rug periodically. Regular vacuuming is beneficial, but avoid vacuuming the braided edges and refrain from using a vacuum with rotating brushes.
MADE-TO-ORDER
This is a vintage rug ready for immediate delivery; however, it can also be woven as made-to-order by the skilled artisans at the studio in Båstad, Sweden. Please contact us for further information and assistance.
