Stjärnflossa, gråblå 130 x 186 cm
Vintage hand-knotted pile rug designed by Barbro Nilsson in 1957. Handwoven by at Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB, Båstad, Sweden. Marked AB MMF and BN (artist’s initials).
This rug is currently on display in our Stockholm showroom and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Stjärnflossa is ingeniously composed of geometric shapes that form two distinct types of interconnected stars. Originally designed in a monumental scale for Västerås Cathedral, it went on to become one of Barbro Nilsson’s most beloved designs in the decades that followed.
MATERIALS AND CARE
The rug is hand-knotted in wool on a linen warp. Wool is naturally stain-resistant and should not be washed too frequently, as this can strip the natural oils that protect the fibers.
To ensure even wear, rotate the rug periodically. Regular vacuuming is beneficial, but avoid vacuuming the braided edges and refrain from using a vacuum with rotating brushes.
